If you ever wondered what’s the best way to go green, besides recycling , well, it’s the applied solar power! I’m thinking it’s the most effective way to considerably reduce carbon dioxide emissions, hence you decided to power up your home with the help of the biggest source of energy in the universe: the sun!
There are a few ways for you to apply solar electricity to your household. First of all , solar power could fire up everything from a pocket calculator or small watch to an entire city. All you need are solar panels installed on your rooftop! A solar panel is consisted of tiny solar cells that each contain small bits of silicon ( which is the same material used for computers and plasma tv’s). Now silicon is a semi-conductive material so that when light hits the solar panel, the electrons try to move form the positive side to the negative one, thus magically electric current happening! Put in a wire there and you have electric current flow! The more solar cells and wires you got put together and the more wires you connect them to, the more power output you’ll get! More informations about solar projects you can find on this website electroschematics.com/solar-projects/
The solar cells produce direct current or DC, which is the type of power that most batteries make! Now, your ordinary electronic or electric appliances , form the simple light bulb to your laptop or tv, work with AC or applied current, meaning that solar power systems must contain a converter or more suitably put, an inverter that turns DC into AC!
There are two types of solar systems that you could install on the rooftop of your home, and these are off grid and grid systems! We won’t get into much detail, ( maybe in another post) but they both bring advantages and disadvantages, the main difference between them being that with the off grid system you get the biggest amount of energy needed for your household to function properly, without the use of a backup classic generator( if you ask me , you should have one no matter what anyway!), and in daytime, excess energy is stored within the cells , to use at night or on rainy cloudy days!
